Yale Padlock Performance Standard - Strength Rating    

The strength rating system has been developed to enable the true evaluation of the physical security of padlocks, and is classified in ten grades based on test that simulate attack.  The grade given to each padlock and accessory is based on the lowest test results achieved.

• Basic Security (Rating 1 - 3)  - Offers basic protection for barrier or deterrent purposes.
• General Security (Rating 4 - 6) - Suitable for general purpose applications where good corrosion resistance is required.
• High Security (Rating 7 - 10) - Offer the greatest protection and conform to CEN grades 3 - 6 and are accredited by Secured by Design as a Police Preferred Specification.

 Yale Padlock Performance Standard - Corrosion Rating    

All Yale padlocks and accessories are exposed to an accelerated corrosion test to evaluate their resistance to corrosion.  The simple scale used is to help you determine the most appropriate padlock based on the application you wish to use it in.  The grades applied are

• Indoor  - dry protected conditions .
• Outdoor - padlocks that are suitable for use both indoor and outdoor and will withstand damp conditions.
• Extreme - suitable for use outdoors in what is considered harsh environments.

 It is important to select a padlock which has the appropriate SIZE, STRENGTH, SECURITY and CORROSION rating for your application.
